My three main takeaways from this course are, Customer
Relationship Management (CRM), a basic understanding of ethical procedures, and
understanding how to persevere through challenges.
Firstly CRM has to be on here
because of how much we spoke about it. As a child growing up I though I was
aware of what was going on around me but after diving into this topic I realize
just how much one person can actually know. When an event is occurring only the
manager knows what is happening on every front and only he has so much control.
It makes me value good managerial skills, as well as appreciating EVERYTHING
that goes into an event and managing customers.
Secondly ethical procedures actually
shocked me here. I had no expectation of learning about this topic in class but
when we discussed the champagne case it made me think about the perspective of
the public on your actions. I was dead set on taking the champagne but after
recalculating with the struggle that comes from the public perspective of you I
reconsidered and I think it is important to be hyperaware in the overly
sensitive society that we find ourselves living in.
Lastly persevering through
challenges. In this class we spoke of the “worst case” scenarios. Whether it be
a murder at your hotel or rain on an outdoor wedding, I learned about the
demeanor in which to handle myself and do damage assessment. Hoping to minimize
the problems that come from the event and doing the best I can from there.
Ironically to end the class with my project I had to last minute scramble and
using skills that I learned in class might’ve been what saved me not only on
this project but also with future obstacles ahead.
