November 17th, I attended a Wizards Bucks game at the
Verizon center with the Sports Management department of the GWSB. The goal of
this trip was to enlighten students on the path you can take in your career and
to give us a chance to interact with individuals who have gone through what we
have and who have very applicable advice. After a brief tour of the facility we
settled in seats that were borderline courtside seats to watch the players warm
up as we got to know Wizard personnel. Immediately several members of the
marketing and analytics team approached us. They spoke to us for 15 minutes
just to give us a brief overview.
After their
talks we then got to go up and ask questions in person and to network with
them. They were taking their time to ensure that we would walk away from this
event with a new knowledge for the business and they were successful in doing
that.
Instead of
talking about what happened in it I want to talk about the personnel of the
stadium and bring it back to hospitality. We were allowed in early but
understandably we were not allowed to stay courtside for the game. The Verizon
staff was very kind and friendly answering my questions of where I should go to
get to my seats and they gently handled moving 50 college students from the
lower bowl sections. A knowledge of the arena was displayed, they also showed
off that they had a well-mannered and versed staff. We were to receive free t
shirts as part of the trips and they handled the crowd that surrounded the
booth well, casually sorting people out and efficiently keeping the line moving
as they were still guiding us to our seats up in the nosebleeds. The staff’s
calm demeanor while preparing for the massive crowds of fans allowed the event
to be such a success.
