Reflection

My top three learning experiences from this class would have to be learning about hotel management from Mr. Pete DiOrio, our Marriott guest speaker Ms. Dolores Press who had an awesome story to teach us about developing self-brand, and our class about ethics. Mr. DiOrio taught me that it is important to go above what is expected in your service as that is how one becomes truly established in the business. Ms. Press told us about how getting to know your employees on a personal level helps them understand your personal brand and what it is you are trying to bring to the company. As well as when it comes time to request your employees complete a task you will know what they are going through and how to ask in a way that elicits a prompt and productive response from them. Finally our class on ethics changed my views on what is ethical and what is not. For our in class exercise we were given a form and asked to write yes or no to whether a dilemma was ethical or not. For many of my yes responses I was shown in discussion how what I thought looked ethical could be seen in an unethical light. This class taught me so much that I hope to carry with me for the rest of my career.
