Course Reflection- JE

I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to take Hospitality Industry Management this semester with professor Levy. As a student majoring in event and hospitality management, this course set the foundation of my knowledge, understanding, and exposure to all things related to the industry.

My top three takeaways from this course include:

1) The most valuable thing that I will take away from this course is my knowledge on informational interviews. The informational interview assignment both enriched my knowledge of the hospitality industry and taught me professional interview skills that will be useful to me throughout my entire career. Furthermore, it helped me to improve my communication skills and confidence when speaking with professionals. I really enjoyed working on this project and appreciated how it was designed to benefit our personal careers.

2) My second top takeaway relates to Customer Relationship Management (CRM). I feel that this course topic is extremely valuable and important not just to the hospitality industry, but also to businesses across all industries. I am confident that I will use the CRM practices and strategies in any and every career position of mine in the future.

3) My third top take away relates to ethical behavior. Learning ethical behavior is another topic that is not just important in the hospitality industry, but across all industries. You never know if and when you are going to be in put in a position where you are forced to make a difficult decision. Although its hard to prepare for the unexpected, knowing the seven guidelines of evaluating a course of action will be helpful to make ethical decisions.
